Over 800,000 units of cream cheese under various brands recalled because of Salmonella contamination
Schreiber Foods Inc. in Green Bay, WI, issues a recall of 836,721 units of cream cheese products due to potential Salmonella contamination, affecting various brands including Dutch Farms, Fareway, Happy Farms, and Kroger, among others.
The recall, initiated on May 3, 2024, is ongoing and involves products distributed across several states, including California, Florida, New York, and Texas, as well as Puerto Rico.
Consumers who have consumed cream cheese and developed symptoms of Salmonella infection, such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, are advised to seek medical attention, as special tests are required for diagnosis.
Symptoms typically manifest within 12 to 72 hours after consumption and may last for four to seven days. However, severe cases may necessitate hospitalization, particularly among vulnerable populations such as older adults, children, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Recalled products include various flavors and brands of cream cheese spreads, such as Whipped Cream Cheese Spread, Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese Spread, and Strawberry Cream Cheese Spread, each packaged under different labels and UPC codes.
Additionally, a Variety Tray containing Chive Onion, Strawberry, and Plain Cream Cheese Spreads, as well as Bulk Culinary Cream Cheese Spread, are among the recalled items.
The recall underscores the importance of food safety measures in preventing the spread of foodborne illnesses, emphasizing the need for vigilance in handling and consuming perishable food items.
